The Coelacanth

I was driven to find Ogden Nash yesterday. He wrote a series of poems called the Animal Kingdom.

The Coelacanth
Consider now the Coelacanth,
Our only living fossil,
Persistent as the amaranth,
And status quite apostle.
It jeers at fish unfossilized
As intellectual snobs elite;
Old Coelacanth, so unrevised
It doesn’t know it’s obsolete

    Thank you for finding this poem! It was quoted in a book I am reading and I could not find it among any of his poems.
